Flexlite surfboard technology is a composite moulding process specifically developed for surfboards.
Composite boards originated in windsurfing however Flexlite tweaked the technology to obtain the flex & responsiveness needed for performance surfing.
Based on an EPS (expanded polystyrene) core sandwiched with high density PVC sheet foam for durability.
The PVC tapers towards the rails which builds a flex point, similar to a fishing rod that tapers towards the tip, & goes into higher density foam that is more durable where it counts.
Tapering the PVC towards the rails also allows for the EPS core to make up most of the rail thickness which decreases weight.
Once the flex was achieved the boards also gained more drive due to a faster reflex response from the epoxy resin & PVC foam.
Standard Polyester boards have very good flex but they (especially overtime) breakdown & are slower to respond.
Composite boards come back to their original shape much quicker & generally have a much longer life than a typical polyester board, after being flexed, which allows more drive & speed through turns as well as projecting through flat sections.
